“Why is it not opt-in? That’s what everybody is spamming in chat. I get it. ‘Let me opt in versus making me opt out,’” Minton said. “Well, there’s an honest answer… If this was opt-in, nobody would opt in. That’s honestly the answer.”
The absolute cheek of it!

I think that was some random semi-celebrity or whatever, but that quote is from "Chief Product Officer" at Twitch (Amazon).
On top of this, these people making these decisions don't even seem aware of what has happened earlier, zero insight into what the company they work for has actually done, in the very same area they're actively working in?
> When one user asked if their videos had already been used for training, Minton responded, “I don’t actually know the answer to that question because I don’t know what Amazon […] has done in terms of model training and what they’ve used and not used.”
When nothing seemed to have worked calming down users in the chat, these people working at Twitch decided to appeal to higher authority, the champion of managing personal data:
> Kish noted that Twitch is not unique in its use of user content for AI training. Meta, for example, uses public content from its platforms to train its own AI models

I guess I'll give them points for honesty. It's not every day that an organization openly admits that they are doing something to trick people who wouldn't otherwise willingly do that thing.

Not necessarily, perhaps they think many/most people won't care either way

Exactly. Many countries have switched to an opt-out system for organ donation for this reason.
Most people aren't in the habit of wasting their time making choices about things they don't care about.

Just what the world needs. Surely this is the path to "superintelligence." Or "superidiocracy." Or super something.

The Zon is a data-driven company. Train on its user's data? Of course it would. It can do no less.
It's in the corporate DNA, just like Embrace-Extend-Extinguish is in Microsoft's DNA.

Is this one of the cases where they were too preoccupied with can we do it instead of should we do it... In many ways Twitch is pretty much at bottom of list of things I want to train AI on...
The absolute cheek of it!
